I had the same problem in my Sprint TouchPro activated on Verizon. This regedit fixed the problem, I now get messages in more than one part & the entire message gets through no matter how long it is.

I have no idea if this same fix works in an Omnia or not:

Navigate to HERE:
Step 1

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SMS\TextShare d
you will find something in there that says:
ab (default)
(value not set)

if its there then ignore it and if its not there then dont worry about it.
Step 2
add a
DWORD Value of this below
EMSHandlerInstalled
DWORD Data is 1
and Base is DEC on the radial button.
