I was having similar problem where in vista it would take long time to show up, then would not have the new rom listed in the upgrade to section... then would finally say something like unsupported device and would not upgrade.

I tried also with XP loaded inside a "virtual machine" in Vista as a host and got same thing.
Was running out of time to test further as I had 2 go out so I just ran the files off my older XP laptop and worked.

For Vista try this:
I forgot 2 try "right clicking" the "APACUpgradeUt_noID" file, selecting "properties", In "compatability" tab, check box to run in compatability mode for XP.
Also futher down check box for run prog as administrator.

I dunno if that would work but worth a try

EDIT:
woops I forgot to load activesync int the XP virtual machine. thats prob it and also Vista no longer uses activesyc that could be why noID program could not see 6700 as supported device... hmm.
