According to my Sprint Touch Pro manual, method 3 above is actually the official Sprint reset method.

Don't forget the "Clear Storage" option in Settings. Obviously, this won't help if the phone is frozen, but otherwise it's far easier for those with only 2 hands than all this multiple button stuff.
