Yes it is very simple to upgrade the bootloader--too simple in fact. The point is that you don't want to upgrade it. It will prevent many ROMs from working on your device. There are no advantages whatsoever to upgrading it and trying to revert it back to the old version is extremely complex.

I know that runs contrary to the "newer=better" mantra about tech, but in this particular case you really don't want the new bootloader.
