Your phone is a class 3 bluetooth which gives it a range of ca. 33 feet supposedly (under optimal conditions). The range is limited by your equipment. Your phone and the radio your using, and your headset. I use Sprint radio 1.0.11f and the BluAnt z9i with no issues.
Of course the range on bluetooths in general I never recommend to seperate the devices by more than 10 feet and when the phone is on your right hip and bluetooth in your left ear, the signal going through your body will cause static on more affordable headsets. Where I work we sell about 12 different headsets.

Jawbone II: good sound, but awkward to keep the headset in just the right position so it works
Plantronics Voyager 520: good sound, any cheaper your getting what you pay for.
Any others, your wasteing your money and your sacrificing money-saved over quality.
That is what I have summized selling them through the years.
