Thats the GSM diamond pad.

There really are 5 buttons on there. The center, and the 4 corners. However, the phone only responds to the physical presses if your finger is on that area. Your finger has to be touching both left capacitive areas to be able to tap left on the DPad.

Its hard to understand, I know. I wish it was a separate button. It really pisses me off sometimes.
