yes you're doing something wrong.

You have Jason Bateman as your avatar... to me that's pretty wrong... lol

No seriously consider contacting ecare and threaten to cancel your service because of the crappy HTC devices you've ended up with... then kindly suggest that you'd be willing to stay if they replace it with the phone of your choice to keep you as a customer... that will most likely solve your problem.
