Re: Touch Pro 2 port 2/23/2009
Here's a comment from one of the developers, that is worth sharing. Just so everybody knows what they're up against. (Apart from the fact they don't actually do this as a paid job.)

The porting of the rhodium is taking so long because there are a lot of different subtab menu's that all need to be reedited in landscape and portrait mode. Even the ones that have scroll in them won't scroll to the bottom. All these different pages are horribly coded, so that the code to move a certain object in one script might (and most likely will) completely different from the next and we have find each function by trial and error, recompiling the script loading it into the device and then check if the changes we made are the correct ones (which is usually not the case ). For the people alone are about 56 scripts and not everything you see is put in one script, so will have check every script if there is something familiar there (which since it's coded like a bucket of crap, this sometimes is very hard). And then there are the touch area's, the never easy to locate always named differently and in another script or coded in mysterious ways. On top of that we have had to reedit a lot of the script since we got the rhodium manila. For example: Today I have been working on the landscape people tab, which has a lot of items on it so we have to get creative about where to put everything (same with the music tab, I had to move to play/pause, next and previous buttons in horizontal alignment where they where originally coded in to be on vertical alignment, it took me about a week to figure this out). On top of that it holds a couple of special functions and it seems to break easy. But the way it looked before was not very functional. When we finish this it will be nicer than the one on the HD, TP2 and D2. And that's just the lua part. Meanwhile XB and DHarvey are working there buttocks off to get it to install by cab properly. I hope you will understand a bit better why it is taking this long and why we can't announce a release date, we simply can't be sure since haven't figured this thing out ourselves. Be we will and we already got it to auto start which is great. We are hoping for your sympathy on all this and we will release it in a sticky in the dev and hacking thread where Ameet has given the three of us two pages at the beginning of the thread to keep you up to date and post mods and updates, thanks 12
