Re: Chefs need servers right?

While I do not want this to sound wrong, I am sure that I will figure out a way. It is very cool that all of you are offering to help chefs out with free hosting of their roms but I feel compelled to warn you that you really need to be careful who you give what rights to. I am sure that you have a good understanding of the inherent issues, as you have a server in the first place, I feel like I have to say something.

I am not saying that anyone here would do something malicious however you are opening yourself up to someone taking advantage of you and potentially getting you into trouble. Just imagine if someone upped a bunch of child porn or pirated software. If it gets found out about, the authorities are going to come to you, irregardless of whether it was someone else's account on your FTP. Simply because the server is leased to you, you are the guilty party.

How do I know all of this? I have a friend who had it happen to him in almost the exact same way. And I was a network admin at four different ISPs, and have seen the court orders come in from local PDs to the FBI. And believe me, it gets ugly.

Don't get me wrong, I offer space as well for chefs and developers (see my signature below) but I provide the update to my server for them. Keeps everyone honest and while it is more work on me, I am safe and honestly don't mind.

Either way, no matter what you do, good looking out for the community and we all appreciate it.
