right, but their only talking about charging while braking, I don't brake as much as I drive.
where the electric really benefits cars is in the torque used to get started from a stop, so a quick charge before you stop would ensure there's enough juice to get a good boost. obviously the gas engine would still need to run to maintain speed and "trickle" charge the batteries.
the main problem with batteries currently IS the slow discharge (think cold cranking amps), thus they stack many cells, and it adds weight/size.
