Clean it w/soap and water, then for good measure, boil some water in there. You will typically notice that even after a good washing, after boiling you'll see some dye come up.

Usually after that, your in the clear. I have used the same pot for a ton of backs and it appears to clean, definitely clean enough to eat out of.
