I've been doing something similar for quite a while on my phones and my GPS unit. I bought a car charger that has dual USB ports on it. I then bought a retractable sync/charge cable for each device I had. I have used this setup with a Treo 700wx, my Mio GPS unit and now my 6800.

As a matter of fact, I picked up the retractable mini-usb at a local Dollar Tree.
