I can answer the first part of your questions for you..It is better to backup to your SD card because if something happens to your phone and you need to hard reset or what not..Then the backup you created will be gone as well if saved to "my device". As far as the second part of your question goes, I also use SPB backup and never ran into that problem so I wont be much help there. Sorry
