There is no way to temporarily turn it off. You can just not use the app for a specific program and instead use a phyiscal key to cause rotation - that may work better for you on a few apps.

How would I use a physical key to cause rotation?
As far as temporarily turning it off, I guess I could create a .reg file to whitelist and de-whitelist the apps I want to turn on/off and run it before and after. Would that work or is a soft reset required in there?
