I too had this same problem almost. I wasn't getting any messages on either my PC nor my phone asking anything it just wasn't synching nor recognizing my device. However, I found help on Microsoft's site and it suggested I do what this poster suggested you do and Voila it worked. I seriously doubt you didn't find this what I suspect is that you didn't go to the right location to find it.

Go to Start on your Touch Pro ----> Settings ----> Connections tab ----> USB to PC -----> then uncheck the box "Enable Advanced Network Functionality".

If you don't see this then I suspect there is something wrong with your Touch pro because that should most certainly be there.
