Wireless Network Camera, no infrastructure?

I have been reasearching PPC devices now for a while (looking at TP), and one of the things I would like to do is to view a wireless network camera with the device. Now, I know it is possible, but what I dont know is if a PPC deivce could view, or operate a PTZ camera, if the camera is not connected to a network and is instead is operating with the PPC in "Ad-Hoc" mode.

I would like to be able to have a portable camera, be it backup camera in the truck, or a camera in a trailer, maybe in the backyard to keep an eye on the little one, but mostly to mount the camera on the back of my motorcycle and have the TP on the tree's so I can see what is behind me when riding.
