Is VoiceSMS on PPC possible?

I just played with someone else's Lotus and it has this VoiceSMS feature. Apparently many new (and even some older) non-PPC phones out have this feature. It allows you to send a recording as a text message with your name or phone number attached to it. The receiver will get an alert that you have sent them a voiceSMS and can listen to it. It has some VisualVoicemail aspect but not really. I was wondering if there is a software for PPC that will do this. If the recipient is a PPC phone, it will receive a text with a link to a weird number to call to retrieve the VoiceSMS, which is fine with me, but I want the PPC to be able to compose a VoiceSMS as well.

The last time this was brought up, it turned into a discussion about how to leave a voicemail w/o ringing that persons phone (I believe it is 11+areacode +phone number, at least for sprint), which is nice but not what I am after.

Some of my friends leave their voicemailbox pretty full of messages and leaving them a message is useless because they won't get to them for a while. If I can leave them a VoiceSMS they will know it is from me and can access it directly without going through the rest of their voicemail. Like I said, sorta like visual voicemail, but no call forwarding charges required (and yes, I know some of you are successful at convincing Sprint to not charge you but that is a huge YMMV). Of course I can send them a text, but sometimes you have a long message and a voice message can better convey your expression.

Almost every new phone from Sprint has VoiceSMS, why can't expensive PPC phones?
