Am I doing something wrong, or is the TP not capable of synchronizing word documents?

In the Windows Mobile Device Center, under Mobile Device Settings/Change content sync settings/Files, I’ve got a word doc that I’ve selected that I synchronized to my TP. I’ve since modified the doc on the TP then synchronized my files again, but it didn’t update the doc on my computer. So now I’ve got the original version on my computer and a newer modified version on my TP. Is there anyway to write/modify a doc on TP and have it update the computer doc to the newer modified version on the TP when syncing?

Former Palm user and new to WM so I’m sure I’m just overlooking something.
