Couple of things you can try:

You may have to specify ports for the smtp & pop 3 servers:

-example SMTP.SPRINTPCS.COM:965 (that is not the actual port, just an example). Google it and see if there are specific ports needed for yahoo pop3.

-Set a login and pw to be used for both send & receive.

-Try disabling SSL for both incoming & outgoing.
