For the SMS/MMS,
try this option. It's something they are working on over at XDA-Developers. This has worked to fix the MMS on all of the ROMS I have flashed since I found it (20+). Pick the one for your carrier at the bottom of the first post. Feel free to comment on any of the pro's and con's relating to the CABs over on that thread.
Remember to ensure that you do not select any Arcsoft option in your BuildOS when you cook your ROM. When this CAB is installed, it writes all your Registry entries including your individual MSID, that's why cooking it into the ROM doesn't work (Unless you enjoy making pointless RegEdits
)
