Weird, I am on the Alltel network and with stock & manila phone dialer i would get 3 light rings before the audible ring picked up and 1 -2 rings on the caller's side before the light ring would activate, so in effect a caller would have about 5 audible rings before i would hear one on my phone.
Several Roms I cooked with Erice, & Caulkulin's kitchens the rings got down from 5 to 2 or 3 effective rings from the callers' side. May fav was caulkins black s2a with curtain. But the last 2 ROMS of Mightymike's the rings were basically instant. I have a skypeout account that i test with and when I call I hear one ring and alomst instantly the phone ring light comes on and the phone rings on the 2nd effective ring. He currently uses black manila S2A which think is great and I don't think responsiveness can get any better.
