This is my first PDA. My Sanyo M1 was holding battery pretty well for those 8 hours at work.
Even with a weak signal, it should be practically IMPOSSIBLE for the battery to die in 2 hours because you have all the data services basically disabled (direct push, no IM clients running I assume, no wifi, no BT, etc).
