if you have a SIM card you have a GSM phone. CDMA phones don't have simcard slots, unless they're very special international versions. In the UK you should be GSM though, my CDMA Verizon phone never found a tower at all when I was abroad in London, despite verizon wireless being a joint venture between vodaphone and verizon.
