basically you can connect without having to use the cable. Its just another way to connect the 2 devices Also if the laptop you want does not have bluetooth, you can always purchase a bluetooth dongle for $10-$40 I got one from staples for $10.00 they sell micro ones which are designed to stay in the usb port as well.
