In the NYC and Boston area, both services performed exactly the same in my experiences. Even if I didn't get service directly through sprint, I was roaming on Verizon towers. Most sprint plans should come with unlimited roaming too. Out in the middle of nowhere, Verizon probably does perform better as I think they have more towers deployed. As for EVDO, Sprint vastly outperforms Verizon. Service isn't the reason I switched anyway, Verizon wanted to charge me 40$/mo for unlimited data. I now pay less than that for everything including taxes and insurance.
