From under the settings tab, and then under communications i turned wi-fi and dta connection off... however still seem to be getting online somehow... is there some way to turn it off completely going through windows or some other way?

i know there is one program that autoupdates randomly (epocrates) for some reason too... cant figure out how to turn that off (& it's one program i need on phone or id uninstall it)

thanks for any help!
The 100% surefire way is to have sprint DISABLE all data access for your line. You can do it thru ecare, chat, or *2.

It's undoable if you decide to add data later. Just tell them you want all vision data access disabled on that line.

I did this for my kid's line until she was old enough for unlimited data.

You could ask if they can add the vision access pack for $5 first. If they say no, then ask for it to be disabled. Vision access pack is unlimited data as well (but not Picture mail, oddly that now costs an extra $5/mo)
