IIRC the push notifications actually go out through the carrier(?terminology?) channel like SMS and then when it recieves the notification it fires up the data connection. And then it also checks on the heartbeat, which I believe is 45 minutes after the last sync (which would be recieve, send, or last heartbeat).
I could be wrong...still reading up to take the MCTS 08 tests (MCSA equivalent for Server 2008 ), and Exchange 07 will be after those
But I did manage to set my current one up without reading documentation
(Oh, as a side note, if anyone has any testing they would like to do with different Exchange configs, let me know I have my own server to play with).
