I am a bit confused about the tricolor screen (bootloader screen?). Do you see that screen only if the phone is first unlocked or does it also appear with stock rom phones? I ask because I recently upgraded from a Mogul to a TP and while trying to restore my Mogul backup (PIM data) to the TP it kept getting errors and freezes. And so in the course of doing a hard reset I believe I had the VOL Down, Power Button and maybe the reset button (can't quite remember) and the tricolor screen came up.

This is a stock phone from Sprint. So if the Tricolor screen only comes up with unlocked phones is it possible that Sprint shipped it unlocked?
