Since you are new, I would highly recommend skipping anything related to flashing a new ROM. Learn the basics, and then play with some of the ROMs out there once you're comfortable and have a better idea of what you like/want. The Touch Pro Essentials thread that cforster posted a link to has a lot of great information.
