Size and price, plain and simple. I have an MSI Wind and I love it. It has a 10 inch screen, Atom 1.6 ghz CPU (most common netbook CPU), 1 gb of RAM, 80 gb hard drive, and the keyboard is very usable. Depending on the model and trim, you can get a netbook for as low as $300 with a 9 or 10 inch screen that weighs around 2.5 pounds. You're going to spend a hell of a lot more than that for a very small 12 inch laptop. Netbooks definitely require a few compromises but for a few hundred bucks and for near laptop-like performance, they can be excellent. I use mine every day tethered with my Touch Pro and it's been one of the best purchases I've made recently.
