I know that autorun will put files in MainMemory, but I read in some post that is primarily that when someone makes a cab, the destination directory is left as a wild card....that's why you get the option when doing a pure cab install. Without a specific directory, autorun puts it in main memory. However, if the CAB file calls specifically for it to be placed on the SD card, the that's what autorun will do. Have you ever tried modifying a CAB so that it specifically calls for installation on an SD card?....If so, was it successful?
