Re: Manila TF3D - What's The Point?
I consider myself a "power" WinMo user, but I am sure the definition of that varies greatly as well. I have been a Pocket PC user all the way from first PDAs running WinCE, PPC, and now WM. I use my Touch Pro for work and get all of my Exchange server emails, tasks, contacts, and schedule synched via a data push. I upgraded to Touch Pro from Mogul and initially had mixed feelings about TF3D. But after using it for a few days now and using a custom ROM that removed all Sprint tabs from it that I don't need, I actually like it and I think it is an improvement and more then an eye candy. As many posters pointed out, it may suit the needs of some and others will find it shortcoming - it all depends on what YOU are used to, how YOU use your phone, and what is important to YOU. I have used SPB Mobile Shell and it is nice and much more customizable, but I find that TF3D works just fine for my needs and I can zoom around and do things very efficiently and never touch the stylus.
Jazee, in regards to why some people called your initial post a "rant" is because, contrary to your statement that you are simply trying to get other people perspective, you wrote things like "slap in the face from HTC...", "half-baked solution to Windows Mobile users who have some sort of inferiority complex", "what the REAL BENEFIT", "What a joke", "How pathetic",...etc. So according to all this I am just a user with an inferiority complex that want to make people thinks that I really wanted an iPhone...? Hardly so. If you are truly looking for a constructive feedback, then you should first start with a constructive post without offending anyone else in the process.
A "slap in the face" would be for HTC to force you to use their interface with no alternative. Instead, you can just uncheck ONE single checkbox and never see TF3D in your life. Now that's the flexibility I want from every manufacturer - offer me something extra but don't force me to use it. You can not please everyone. I thank HTC for going above and beyond and trying to help solve WM shortcomings.
Lastly, personally, I find your statement about importance of weather being displayed on today's screen being as significant as time, simply laughable to say the least. I would absolutely NOT want weather taking space on my screen all day. I check time several times a day since I forget my watch frequently; but I check the weather TWICE - when I am getting ready in the morning and when I go to bed at night so I know what tomorrow will look like. It works perfectly for me to do a quick swipe with a finger in TF3D to see the weather twice a day and not see it in between. Where do you live that you need to check weather every hour or are you a meteorologist??
