Thanks for letting me know that Trident. I read earlier in this thread about how Gmail wasn't being set up properly with 4.2 and how when it tries to auto-detect settings for Gmail it sets them up wrong. Someone said to let it do that and then go back and change the settings yourself. I went to my gmail and followed the setup instructions on there and send/receive are working with no problems. its more of a case of the auto-setup being wrong i guess, rather than the protocol you choose.

You do have to make sure that your settings on GMail are correctly set for whichever protocol you are using.
I did have some issues with sending email briefly- but they seemed to go away and now it all works fine.
