I ask because back in the day when I knew what I was doing (think iPaq 3800), a hard reset was a permanent thing and the best you could do was backup your PIM type data and your "My Documents" stuff, but all your installed software and OS hacks were gone for good and you needed to drop a few hours reinstalling and reconfiguring everything.

Am I experiencing a gross conceptual error to think that nowadays it's gotten less painful?
PIM backup will restore stuff, but flashing this new rom will perform a hard reset.

I am not sure if UC Customization is turned on, but there are ways to automate the re-install of programs.

For now though, this "upgrade" will hard reset your device.
