It is called the extended rom. It includes all of the 'extras' from your cell phone company. On sprint moguls, it includes Sprint TV, Sprint Navigation, Audible, On Demand, Software Store... etc. It also installs the sprint backdrop, and adds some other network specific features. It only runs on the first boot after a hard reset, so you can avoid the customizations by doing a soft reset with the stylus as soon as it starts the countdown. Just about everyone on this forum skips the extended rom. Your phone is perfectly functional without it, and in many cases it performs much better.
