I'm less interested in accuracy of the fix than I am the battery life if I leave the GPS running for a long period, or do lots of timed updates (like every 5 minutes through the course of a day)...

If the aGPS update would allow me to get a quick, approximate fix from cell towers without actually firing up the main receiver, it'd be a big help.

Yes, that is the general idea. Less accurate, but quicker and less battery needed. As for speed though, the current GPS implementation is pretty darn fast.

I believe aGPS is actually less accurate than normal GPS, so having it would not increase your accuracy. Also, 10 yards off is pretty darn close for a consumer product. I doubt you are going to get anything better. Most programs won't even tell you it is 10 yards off, but I assure you, is still something similar to that. The best I have seen is "within 10 meters" with Google Maps. All other programs do not report accuracy to such a degree, but will have the same error regardless.

Your comment about "before aGPS" was figured out...well, I think that was a bit of placebo on your account. I'm open to discussion on the matter. I am by no means an expert on the topic.

I'm dying for something with turn-by-turn audio but I can't get TomTom7 to work. I haven't figured out how to install map or audio data.
No, not that I am aware of. VZ Nav is something that has to be activated on your phone from Verizon.

Have you tried Garmin Mobile XT? Has audio turn-by-turn and works pretty great imho.
