What settings are responsible for speeding up landscape/portrait switching?

I've tried a number of the recent ROMs (Juggs, Juicy and DREAM), and most are significantly snappier than stock, with the exception of one area: going from portrait to landscape and back. The entire phone seems to bog (not just video) during this process. The screen orientation switching itself happens very quickly, but the phone bogs afterward for about 10 seconds. The only setting I'm aware of that is supposed to counteract this slowness is the GLYPHCACHE parameter. I've tried all kinds of settings and none seem to have an effect on it in this instance.

Are there any other cache or memory management parameters that can be tweaked to reduce this type of behavior? This problem alone is enough to make me want to flash back to stock, and I'd really rather give these ROMs more time on my phone...

Thanks in advance,
Dave
