Ok, I think I've determined that we're talking about two different behaviors.
In PIE6, changing between mobile and desktop view changes whether PIE identifies itself as a mobile browser or desktop browser. Works great on sites like cnn.com, which offer a mobile version of their page. Useless on sites that don't offer a mobile version of their page, like the site I'm wanting to visit. Switching between mobile and desktop view does nothing on a page like that.
The old PIE (v5?) had a "one-column" view setting that would reflow pages into a single column, regardless of whether the site had a mobile version or not. This worked great on the site I'm interested in, but it's gone in PIE6.
So, back to the original question, is it at all possible to install the old PIE on a Diamond flashed to a Juicy 4.x ROM? That would provide the "best of both worlds." I use Opera for most web sites, but loved PIE(5?) for that one particular site.
