Based on my understanding from my Energy Conversion class in college, both Juggalo_X and fr4nk1yn are correct.

@dcperdue: Just because the OEMs and manufacturers don't implement any type of tweaks to improve performance doesn't mean it's damaging to the product. If that was the case, then simple registry tweaks to increase the cache size would be damaging by your logic since they didn't implement that tweak. It was probably a poor business decision from someone that didn't have a complete understanding of the technical stuff or they just got lazy...keep in mind this is HTC.
