The point about satellite radio is that the argument for the merger was that they had competition against terrestrial radio and HD radio.. Other then AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile, there are no other national Cellular companies... If lets say, Sprint folds.. Logically Verizon buys majority of hardware equipment (cell towers, etc.), with the rest of the hardware split by regional carriers.. Then you have T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T.. The only thing that competes against a cellular company is another cellular company.. That isn't true for radio..

I think that Sprint needs to spin-off or sell Nextel.. It is hard for a major company that uses two seperate technologies to stay competitive... iDen and CDMA are not compatiable, so there was only so much money to save by merging them together... Sell Nextel, and focus on Wi-Max...
