"Ejecting" a USB mounted TP in XP

Haven't seen this problem and couldn't find an answer searching so here it goes--

I am using the TP as a USB drive under settings.
I plug it into my Windows XP desktop without problems.
When it comes time to disconnect the TP- I can't eject it because Windows says there's an error or it's in use (when I'm done and close all the explorer windows except the active one).
I end up pulling it out anyway but I understand that if I do that with USB flash drives enough times, it may eventually fail. I'm trying to "unmount" or "eject" the TP correctly.

Anyone else have a similar problem or do you guys just unplug and go???
