Been using Barcorama for a while, in the XDA thread there is another site (fastpricechecker or something) you can use. It's just online stuff obviously, I don't think there's any way you're going to query local stores' databases.

I find that it doesn't pick up all barcodes, and if it's going to read it, it'll happen almost immediately. I have heard of a few people working on a realtime scanning reader, including baffles above.
