i dont know if it was cheaper for spint to do this... example, i work for the post office, they have all air conditioners out of the delivery trucks and the big rigs, recently they ordered new big rigs and they came with air standard, the good old post office paid extra to have them removed, also when they got new vans they came with a/c and they paid extra to remove them.... so in short sprint might have had to actually pay more for them to design and produce a different version, which is retarded. but so it goes...
