Ok, I used masking tape to tape off the section that had the scratch and got a small piece of soft cloth. Then dapped a tiny amount of toothpaste and buffed the scratched area for about 20 minutes and then gently wiped off the toothpaste. This did indeed help the scratch, you can still see it, but it is very faint now.
