If that were the case - VZW Nav and Telenav wouldn't work - since they depend on the onboard GPS capability of the handset... It is true that many phones have to get help from the network to do it, but aGPS is just as "real" a GPS as my Pharos unit.

It's just not available to third-party software yet.
