Re: A little tough Love about battery issues.

Part of the problem is also CDMA. They were able to sell the GSM version of the Diamond with a 900mah battery, but when they made a CDMA version they had to up the battery to 1340mah with little to no improvement in battery life.

This issue could be a huge drawback to Sprint/Verizon going forward. As smartphones and 3G networks become more common place it's becoming obvious that battery life is going to be the biggest limiting factors of these devices. The idea that the average consumer just has to buck up and learn to purchase and carry around 2 or 3 expensive batteries with them is absurd. We are on our way to smartphones becoming mainstream consumer devices largely thanks to the iPhone, a device so mainstream they don't even let you access the battery.

The other part of the problem is that the race to be the sleekest phone on the market has come at the expense of battery size. 3 years ago I purchased a Treo 700p that came with an 1800mah battery and was only a few millimeters thicker than the Touch Pro. The Palm Treo could last 24 hours easily. Now I'm lucky if I can go 4 hours with the Touch Pro without needing to plug in my phone.
