Unfortunately the same date for both TP's tested, 10/12/2008, from Best Buy. Had been hoping to get a later one on exchange. Sales guy insisted replacement had come in last week, and by the time it was powered up and installed to check the date, he'd already activated it in replacement of the original, so it was take-it-or-leave-it.

Although, there have been folks reporting the problem with later dates (and I think non-Best Buy origination, though not sure on that, as most don't specify). Can certainly be luck of the draw -- 2 units don't prove it one way or another -- but it's probably enough for me to give up on TP and Sprint.

PS. I've been using the Samsung i760 to test this with. It never approached warm, much less terminal overheat.

PPS. The i760 is on Verizon, and I get way more bars (only 1 for Sprint). Never dropped a call in the Sprint tests, but as I understand it does use more power to keep up the connection. Still this is ridiculous.
