It doesn't show your entire device as one album. It combines your My Pictures folders (from both the local device and the SD card) and whatever folder it puts the photos it takes in, but any other folders are viewed separately. I assume it combines in subfolders, so this may be what you're describing. Just move those subfolders out, such as to your My Documents folder or elsewhere on your SD card and you should be good to go.
