open your inbox, go to menu, tools, options, then click Aol (or whatever you named your account to).. go to edit settings, then send receive schedule.. change auto send to manually. if you already did this go to advanced settings in the send/receive settings (located at the bottom) and make sure "send receive when i click send" is not checked (perhaps it's checked and fetching mail every time an email is sent). if you've done both, then nevermind lol.
i believe there's a fix for your second problem somewhere on here or xda
