For a quick what is MSID and what was done read below:

When I came to Sprint my phone number was ported from ATT (2 years ago). When I upgraded from the 6700 the msid stayed the same. Tech support solved my problem by programming a fake msid into my phone and then having me do a profile update. This is how they changed my msid. Now the phone works wonderfully.
